A speciality of the Magua Taekwon-Do clubs is the Hosin-Sul (Self/street defence) aspect of the Taekwon-Do training. Our unique, highly effective street defence programme, influenced from old school millitary Taekwon-Do use, many styles and the South African environment is built into the Taekwon-Do programme and taught in stages through the belt ranks, in order to get lots of practice of each defence, instead of throwing them all at you at once. The older groups will have more in-depth training with this, but the kids also learn effective techniques against common bullying including stand up grappling for all ages of kids.
Having said this, the rest of of the aspects of the Taekwon-Do training are just as important to being effective on the street. All of the aspects combine to create a complete martial artist, who is able to adapt to many situations. Mental readiness is also emphasised, by practicing this aspect as realistically as possible. In a great environment. It could be argued that Taekwon-Do is the original mixed martial art in the truest sense of the word, because of the many styles that influenced its creation.
Taekwon-Do’s Hosin-Sul training was around and battle tested in the Korean and many armies around the world long before some of the other so called reality methods that are becoming popular now such as Krav Maga etc. Our urban take on Hosin-Sul adapts the techniques for the street environment of SA.
We teach all of the aspects of Taekwon-Do, not just one or another, like some other styles. Unfortunately some styles out there teach techniques with out the necessary control or responsibility, which is cultivated by practicing Taekwon-Do, including the art side as a whole. This style is well balanced and the art side is very important to balance out the aggressiveness of some of the other aspects of training. Some styles therefore create nothing more than thugs & bullies if the art aspect is not also present. You will not find that here! Also many fighting styles sell their grappling and sport training etc as street defence, where they are clearly designed for sport which include, ring or cage. There is a big difference between real street defence and for instance cage fighting sport.
You will learn how to use your Taekwon-Do to improve your life in all aspects as well as, if ever necessary , to unleash its superior powerful destructive force.
Proficiency in I.T.F Taekwon-Do is a process and does not happen over night. We are not a fast food. If patience is not your thing, there are styles out there that you could practically learn everything it has to offer in a month. Those styles could get you to a certain level soon but in the long run will fall far behind.
Power is nothing without control !
